Guwahati → Shillong
100 km 3 – 3.5 hours
Guwahati to Shillong is about 100 km by road on NH-6 and usually takes 3–3.5 hours by car. Allow longer for traffic, rain and stops at Nongpoh or Umiam Lake. Airport pickup changes the starting distance; share your arrival and return details for a self-drive or driver-included rental quote.

Guwahati → Cherrapunji
148 km 4.5 – 5 hours
Guwahati to Cherrapunji is about 148 km via Shillong (4.5–5 hours); the Shillong to Cherrapunji leg is about 50 km, roughly 1.5–2 hours on a curvy hill road. Sohra is one of the wettest places on earth, and the single best waterfall drive in India. Nohkalikai, Seven Sisters, Mawsmai Caves and Arwah Cave all sit within 20 km of each other.

Guwahati → Kaziranga
193 km 4 – 4.5 hours
Guwahati to Kaziranga's Kohora (Central Range) is about 193 km by road via Nagaon, usually 4–4.5 hours by car. Your pickup point, traffic and stops change the travel time. Share your arrival details, safari range and return plans for a self-drive or driver-included rental quote.

Guwahati → Tawang
448 km 12 – 14 hours (drive over 2 days)
The Northeast's greatest drive. Two days each way, one high pass, and a monastery above the clouds. This is the route we get asked about most — and the one where the right vehicle matters most.

Guwahati → Dawki & Mawlynnong
175 km 5 – 5.5 hours
Crystal-clear boating on the Umngot river plus Asia's cleanest village, done comfortably as a two-day loop from Guwahati.

Guwahati → Kohima
345 km 8 – 9 hours
Highway kilometres followed by a proper hill climb into Nagaland's capital — best timed for the Hornbill Festival in the first week of December.

Guwahati → Gangtok
590 km 12 – 13 hours
The longest single-day drive we rent for, and the only one that ends with Kanchenjunga filling your windscreen at sunrise. Most of it is flat highway through lower Assam and North Bengal — the character arrives in the last 100 km, where NH-10 hugs the Teesta river gorge all the way up to Gangtok. Break it at Siliguri unless you are leaving Guwahati before 5 AM; the Teesta stretch after dark is not worth the saved hotel night.

Guwahati → Imphal
490 km 12 – 14 hours
This is the drive for travellers who want the Northeast beyond its postcard states — Loktak's floating phumdis, the Kangla fort, Ima Keithel run entirely by women, and the Dzukou valley trailheads you pass on the way. It is two long driving days each way with a genuine hill section between Kohima and Senapati, so we recommend it as a five-day trip minimum and only with both permits already in hand. Check current advisories for the Imphal valley before you commit to dates.

Guwahati → Ziro
440 km 10 – 12 hours (best split over 2 days)
Guwahati to Ziro is about 440 km via Tezpur, Gohpur and Itanagar, roughly 10–12 hours of driving. Most travellers split it with a night in Itanagar. Ziro's pine-ringed rice valley, Apatani villages and the September music festival make it the easiest Arunachal trip that doesn't involve a high pass.

Guwahati → Majuli
320 km 7–8 hours driving; ferry & waiting extra
Guwahati to Majuli via Jorhat involves an approximately 320 km road approach to Nimati Ghat, estimated at 7–8 hours of driving, followed by a ferry connection. Crossing, waiting and onward island travel are additional. Confirm the sailing and vehicle acceptance before booking your self-drive or driver-included rental.

Guwahati → Manas National Park
170 km 3.5 – 4.5 hours
Guwahati to Manas National Park is about 170 km — roughly 140 km to Barpeta Road and 22 km on to the Bansbari gate. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and tiger reserve on the Bhutan border, far quieter than Kaziranga, with golden langurs, wild buffalo and the Manas river.
