Guwahati to Ziro: About 440 km, a 2-Day Drive via Itanagar

Guwahati to Ziro is about 440 km via Tezpur, Gohpur and Itanagar, roughly 10–12 hours of driving. Most travellers split it with a night in Itanagar. Ziro's pine-ringed rice valley, Apatani villages and the September music festival make it the easiest Arunachal trip that doesn't involve a high pass.

Guwahati to Ziro distance & travel time

Guwahati to Ziro is about 440 km by road (about 315 km to Itanagar, then the hill road to Ziro): NH-15 along the north bank of the Brahmaputra through Mangaldai, Tezpur and Gohpur, into Arunachal at the Holongi check gate, then the Trans-Arunachal Highway via Itanagar, Potin, Yachuli and Yazali to Hapoli, Ziro's main town. Permits & paperwork

Inner Line Permit (ILP) is mandatory for Indian travellers — apply on the Arunachal e-ILP portal before you leave and carry printed copies. It is checked at the Holongi or Banderdewa gate. Foreign nationals need a Protected Area Permit.

Local tips from our drivers

  • Book stays early for the Ziro Festival in late September — the valley sells out.
  • Fill up in Itanagar or Yazali; fuel stations thin out on the hill section.
  • Carry cash: ATMs in Hapoli run dry on festival weekends.
